Murder-Suicide At PA Nursing Home (Update)

A husband and wife are dead following a shooting at a nursing home in Pennsylvania on Thursday, Oct. 24, according to District Attorney Christopher de Barrena-Sarobe.

An 89-year-old woman died at the scene and her 90-year-old was taken to Reading Hospital with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head — he passed away during the night, the DA explained in an updated release on Friday, Oct. 25. 

Officers were dispatched to a report of "shots being fired within the facility" at Manatawny Manor in Pottstown late Thursday morning, according to the DA.

Soon emergency services were called to help two gunshot victims at the facility located at 30 Old Schuylkill Road in East Coventry Township.

Finally, Chester County Coroner's Office was called to the scene just before 12:30 p.m.

East Coventry Police Department and the Chester County Detectives investigated the murder-suicide. The gun was recovered at the scene.

"There is no threat to the public or anyone else in the nursing home," the DA said.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information about this shooting is asked to call the Chester County Detectives at 610-344-6866.
